Background: Laura has a background in media and worksin Michael Tomlinson’s constituency office addressing a huge range of enquiries and sorting problems for constituents. Laura regards her blended family of 2 children and 4 step-children as lovely, although she sometimes wonders if she has added too many rescue animals and birds to her family.
Councillor: Elected Dorset Councillor in 2019 and 2024.
Laura was previously elected to Purbeck District Council in 2015 taking over the Housing portfolio in 2017. In 2019 Laura was elected to the new unitary authority of Dorset Council, representing the ward of West Purbeck jointly with Peter Wharf. She was delighted to join the Cabinet as Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care & Health, one of the most complex, challenging and transformatory roles in the Council making a huge difference to local people’s lives. Laura also sits on the Dorset Council Health and Wellbeing Board and on the Joint Public Health Board covering Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole as well as rural Dorset.
Other: Laura is passionate about improving lives in Dorset and embedding the Council firmly within its communities, removing barriers and making services and actions truly accessible for all.
Laura also appeared in local and national media in Summer 2020 as she played a crucial role cleaning and defending beaches around Lulworth when some visitors acted irresponsibly.
She was the political lead for Dorset Council’s coronavirus community response, working in partnership with the voluntary and community sector to make sure all residents in all communities were supported and no one got left behind.
