Victory was declared for Upton residents following a unanimous vote in support of a lorry ban in Blandford Road. The Transport Advisory Group recommended that there be a complete ban on lorries in Blandford Road.
Conservative Councillors stated that the Holes Bay road was a better route than lorries going through Upton and that the ban would give the residents of Upton a more peaceful time.
Cllr Bill Pipe attended this evening's meeting and said: “This is a victory for the residents of Upton. I am delighted that I was able to attend a meeting of the Conservative Group before the Transport hearing, and applaud the result, which will lead to fewer lorries and less congestion in Upton.”Cllr Paul Johns has campaigned on this issue for a number of years: “For too long the residents of Upton have had to put up with the noise and extra congestion caused by these lorries. I am delighted that my hard work has paid off, and that there will be a ban on lorries using the Blandford Road in Upton.”
