The Guidance issued to our schools on health and safety has been slashed by 95% as 150 pages of Guidance under Labour has been reduced to just eight pages. Elizabeth Truss MP for South West Norfolk obtained the figures following a number of Parliamentary Questions.
The total number of pages of guidance is now 6,978 compared with 28,455 pages previously.
Michael Tomlinson, Chairman of Mid Dorset and North Poole Conservatives commented, "I am delighted that the guidance has been reduced and is now more proportionate and reasonable in size. As a school governor I see so much guidance and at times we are simply overwhelmed and bombarded by it. What is more, the bureaucracy and red tape surrounding health and safety at schools was putting off vital parts of our children's education, such as school trips. This shows a clear direction of travel and I hope to see more unnecessary red tape cut in the near future."
Elizabeth Truss has recently been appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Education.
