The British rowing star and double Olympic gold medallist James Cracknell visited Dorset meeting local businessmen and residents as he competes for European glory.
The rowing champion, who has crossed the Atlantic with friend Ben Fogle and been awarded an OBE for services to sport, is now running as an MEP in next year’s European elections.
If elected he will represent the South West in the European Parliament. He met hard working constituents across Mid Dorset and North Poole including Wareham, Lytchett Minster, Canford Heath, Broadstone, Merley and Wimborne, introduced by Prospective MP Michael Tomlinson.
Michael said: “I am delighted to be able to show James Cracknell around Dorset. He is one of Britain’s most successful athletes of all time, and since retiring from his international career James has distinguished himself as an inspiring sportsman, athlete and adventurer.
“As he now turns to politics, wanting to give something back, it is my hope that he will inspire both young and old to engage in the important political issues of today and to understand how important these are to our country.”
The Olympic hero said he was delighted to have been invited by Michael Tomlinson to visit the local area.
